Work in social care Working as a Personal Assistant Social & Personal Care Support Worker EM1377 Job Title: Social & Personal Care Support Worker Location: Eastleigh Hourly rate: £11 per hour Reference: EM1377 Hours/shifts: Up to 10 hours a week, Starting on the 01/05/18 Summary The job involves supporting a young 26 year old man with A.S.D (autism spectrum disorder) this condition includes severe deficiencies in language skills, personal care skills, personal safety skills and social etiquette. In spite of all this, he is a normal 26 year old man and enjoys going out, being active and generally having fun. However, he does have some challenging behaviour and requires calm reassurance. Other Requirements Must have a UK driving licence Must have access to own vehicle All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts. Description Prompting Alistair with personal care (i.e. washing, dressing and general grooming). Keeping Alistair safe in the community and at home. Helping Alistair clean up any mess he creates during the day (for example cleaning his plate away after he has lunch). Keeping Alistair active during the day, encouraging him to get up and about. Preparing any snacks and meals Alistair requires. Accompanying Alistair to any doctor’s appointments when needed. Reporting any troubling behavioural or medical issues that Alistair may develop. Skills, proficiencies and attributes needed. Previous experience with people with A.S.D. or other challenging conditions like A.S.D is a must. Being confident in unusual or potentially embarrassing situations in the community and at home. Being able to remain calm in stressful situations when Alistair becomes agitated or angry. Being clean and well-kept in appearance (however, there is no formal dress code). Caring personality. Must have a UK driving licence and preferably their own vehicle. Willing to have a DBS check. Have good time keeping and well organised. Able to speak and read English to a good standard. Someone who is patient honest and cheerful. Must be legally permitted to work in the UK.
