Summary To assist by providing support to enable me to live as independently as possible in a clean, warm home. Helping me to access the necessary support or medical support and assisting me in outdoor activities / community. Personal Assistants may be asked to cover other shifts or do longer shifts due to sickness, holidays, appointments so need to be flexible but I appreciate it may not always be possible unless sufficient notice is given. I have numerous disabilities – deaf, partially sighted, balance, mobility and grip problems as well as a learning disability. I also have a cat and a working Hearing Dog. DescriptionTypical duties Domestic - • Assist by explaining some of the correspondence, including form filing, acting on it or filing it• Assist by making phone calls on my behalf• Emptying rubbish bin• Emptying recycling bin• Assisting with laundry and drying• Assisting with medication for animals (tablets, cream or flea treatment)• Washing Up• Clearing up after the animals• Hoovering• Cleaning bathroom• Cleaning kitchen• Washing floors• Being present when any work person’s carry out work in the flat• Decluttering and rearranging items in the flat• Help with flat repairs or organise flat repairs• Cleaning windows and curtains Personal Care: • Assisting with making meals or cooking meals, and at times cutting up my food• Cutting finger nails• Applying medication to feet • Assist me if I have fallen over to get up Social: • Shopping with me• Shopping without me - if unable to get everything then message me before returning back, as I may ask you to go another shop depending on what item can’t get from first shop• Taking me to activities such as horse riding, bowling, exercise classes, to meet my friends or other hearing dog get togethers• Medical appointments – GP, dentist, optician, chiropodist or hospital• Vet appointments• Accompanying me on walks with my hearing working dog, and clearing up after him• Assist me if I have fallen over to get up Person specificationThe successful applicant will be: • Have a current DBS or be prepared to have one• Be able to work in employer’s home that has animals – cat and dog• Be honest and trustworthy• Be reliable, understanding and patient• Have good time keeping• Be fit and healthy• Be respectful, respect privacy and confidentiality (GDPR)• Have good communication skills with written and speaking English at a reasonable standard• Be cheerful and positive• Be able to work as part of a team• Being able to sign using BSL is an advantage• Willing to cover other PA’s leave / sickness• Ideally be able to drive but not essential• Legally permitted to work in the UK• Able to work at all times to high standard of Health & Safety or rules and regulations Previous experience is preferred but not essential as a kind and common sense of approach to this role.
