Job Title: Support Worker

Location:     Andover       

Hourly rate:  £11.13 per hour

Hours/shifts: Up to 16 hours a week, Increasing in the school holidays

Summary

  • I am a 17 year old young man looking for a support worker to aid me in my personal care, assistance with eating and drinking, engagement in activities within the home and accessing the community
  • Social activities including;
  • Having fun and going for walks, bowling, hydro pool and visiting cafes

 

Other Requirements

  • Must be comfortable with pets
  • Must have a UK driving licence
  • Must have access to own vehicle- vehicle available

All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check

Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.

Typical duties

 

Personal Care: 

Epilepsy support- Administering emergency medication

Automating hemiplegia – to follow emergency protocol

Previous experience of moving and handling preferable

  • Washing and bathing/showering – towelling dry/ drying hair
  • Supervision and/or assistance with showering, drying, hair washing/ brushing as required
  • Hoisting into and out of bath/shower as required
  • Pad changes
  • Getting into bed
  • Help with dispensing tablets
  • Helping with other aspects of personal care as required, for example assisting employer to get changed at swimming pool/gym.

Social:   

  • Driving and accompanying to social events such as:
  • Meals out
  • Bowling
  • Hydro-pool
  • Going for walks
  • Accompanying on trips out.
  • Accompanying to social meetings e.g. friends, family

Person specification

The successful applicant will be:

Previous experience of working with someone who has complex health needs

  • Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality
  • Reliable with good time-keeping
  • Understand and be able follow a detailed care and support plan and risk assessments
  • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
  • Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised
  • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
  • Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Honest and cheerful
  • Attentive to detail
  • Good sense of humour
  • Creative
  • Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
  • Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom
  • Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety

Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
