Job Title: Support Worker/Personal Care Assistant

Hours/shifts: 4.5 hours per week to be split between 2 days, after school and weekends, to be arranged.

Summary 

• 12 year old boy with Downs Syndrome and Autism requires support with activities in the community
• He is non-verbal and uses PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System)
• Some personal care including dressing and changing nappies would be required
• Support with feeding and drinking also needed
• He is able to walk but sometimes uses a wheelchair but not when going out
• He enjoys going swimming, to the park, trampolining
• He also likes playing with sensory toys and books which help to stimulate him and have a positive, calming effect
• He doesn’t like closed in spaces or crowds and sometimes displays challenging behavior
• Some experience of working with children with Downs and Autism essential
• You must be reliable, patient, friendly and trustworthy
• Driver with own car would be useful to get to activities
• This would be a rewarding role with training/guidance provided the child’s mother who is the employer

Personal Care:
• Support with getting dressed/changed for activities
• Nappy changing

Social:
• Taking the child out to social and leisure activities in the community
• Using your own car
• Supporting the child to increase their independence and confidence, learn new skills, learn about risks and dangers in the community and become less anxious
• Enabling the child to mix with other children
• Ensuring that the child is kept safe and supported at all times
• Enabling the child to make their own choices
