Summary

  • Support worker/Buddy needed for 17 years old young man who is on the Autistic spectrum and Lives with OCD. 
  • The young man enjoys activities such as visiting historical places/museums, watching films and visiting the cinema, listening to rock and indie music and going swimming
  • Prompting and supervision needed with all activities.
  • With the help of a support worker/buddy the young man would like to access the community and enjoy fun and leisure activities.
  • Support needed to help the young man gain independent Living skills.
  • Reacts well to structure and routine. 

Hours/Shifts

Up to 5 Hours every Saturday or Sunday 

Other Requirements

Must be comfortable with pets -1 dog 

Must have a UK driving licence 

Must have access to own vehicle 

All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check

Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.

Description

We are looking for a Support Worker/Buddy to help our son enjoy fun and leisure activities and gain the confidence to try new things! The Buddy would be supporting our son who is 17 years old and is on the Autistic spectrum, he also lives with OCD. The buddy would be supporting him to do things like swimming, visiting the cinema, catching public transport, shopping and much more! All activities with emphasis on gaining independent Living skills.

About the employer:

The work will involve supporting the young man to enjoy fun and leisure activities, as well and helping him to develop and learn more independent Living skills. The work will be quite varied. For example; Supporting the young man in the community, catching public transport to local towns, visiting the cinema, going out for lunch, shopping. The buddy will also be working within the home environment helping him complete activities such as; preparing and cooking meals/snack or making his bed/washing laundry. 

The young man needs constant supervision and prompting so that he can complete activities and tasks. Due to the young man’s OCD it is important that he has routine and structure.

Typical duties

Typical Tasks will include

Domestic -       

  • Domestic tasks associated with the support and care of the young person
  • Assisting the young person to;
  • Laundry, hanging out to dry, ironing, putting away
  • Helping with laundry, washing and drying 
  • Loading and unloading the washing machine
  • Loading and unloading tumble dryer/washing line
  • Changing bed linen
  • Bed making
  • General cleaning
  • Preparing drinks, snacks and meals.
  • Shopping
  • Tidying

Personal Care:   

Prompting young person to;

  • Use the toilet 
  • Assistance/prompting with dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings

Social:             

  • Supporting the young person to access fun and leisure activities such as; cinema, park, visiting museums, shopping, swimming etc
  • Supporting the young person to use public transport
  • Occasional longer journeys
  • The above duties may involve driving the young person in the PA’s car

  • Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
