I am looking for someone to provide me, a 32 year old autistic person, with one to one support in the community. I have executive functioning difficulties and sensory integration difficulties and use a wheelchair, so am looking for an understanding person to support me going to theme parks and other attractions, when I am able so certainly not every week. I will also require support with shopping, volunteering, life administration and some light domestic tasks. No personal care is required. Other Requirements All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts. Description Typical duties Domestic - Taking out rubbish Tidying Occasional washing up Correspondence e.g. reading letters, help writing replies, form-filling, assisting with household paperwork Making phone calls on my behalf Assistance with organising medication Occasional support with preparing the feed/fluid for the PEG (Training provided) Posting letters Helping with updating both mine and my daughter’s Wiki (personal website – Not Wikipedia) Social: Accompanying and assisting me on shopping trips when required Accompany me when accessing social and leisure activities, including to theme parks Accompanying me to doctors/hospital appointments when required Occasional longer journeys Occasionally accompanying to social meetings eg friends, family Lifting the folding wheelchair in/out of car, pushing my manual wheelchair when required Supporting me to communicate when I struggle Supporting me to overcome sensory overload and other difficulties relating to autism Supporting me to go to new places Person specification The successful applicant will be: Excellent communication skills with the sensitivity to understand that I do not want to talk all the time. Respectful of my privacy and confidentiality Reliable with good time-keeping Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills Honest and practical Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to this role.
