Hours/shifts:  Saturdays/Sundays including school holidays.

Summary

  • He is an 8 year old boy, living with his mum and dad in Basingstoke.
  • They have three cats and two dogs so you must be happy to be around animals if you’re in the home.
  • He has a condition called Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Alongside this he has attachment disorder, trauma dissociation disorder and global developmental delay.
  • He is a very active boy who loves to be outside.
  • He is very chatty, but his understanding of language is much lower than his vocabulary, so you need to ensure that he knows what you’re asking of him.
  • His understanding of danger when out and about is poor so he needs to be supervised at all times.
  • He loves being praised constantly, in a low key manner and loves spending 1:1 time with people.
  • His attention span is quite short and so plenty of activities need to planned into a day.
  • He is a happy, cheerful, funny boy
  • This role involves empowering the child to build positive relationships outside of the home, to participate in activities, learn new life skills, get lots of exercise, build confidence and self-esteem, keeping him company and having fun, gain independence in a safe way and be happy, to keep him safe and ensure he stays within the boundaries and structure of the day.
  • To give parents respite as he is a very full on child who has little sleep.

 

 

Other Requirements

  • Must have access to own vehicle

Typical duties

Domestic -       

Make him food and drinks, snacks.

 

Personal Care: 

Supervising when using the toilet to ensure he goes and cleans himself properly.

Supervising him at meals times to ensure he eats and drinks. 

 

Social:   

Assisting the child to go to activities that he enjoys such as swimming, trampoline parks, quiet parks and play areas, seaside, soft play, theme parks and other physical activities.    

Driving him in your own car

Helping him build new friendships, communicate and interact with other children who do not have special needs. 

Supporting him to manage his behaviours.

Keeping him safe and supervised at all times. 

Person specification

The successful applicant will : 

Have a full driving licence and their own car

Have experience of working with children who have FASD and attachment disorder, experience and knowledge of trauma and how this shows in children.

Have good communication skills, especially in regards to special needs, understanding PECS and Makaton and using simple sentences.

Be patient, caring and understand the child’s background and how this affects his lfe now.

Have plenty of energy and enthusiasm

Follow the employer’s guidelines in respect of privacy and confidentiality and the child’s background information.

Be reliable with good time-keeping

Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative

Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties

Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom

Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety
