Hours/shifts:  2 hours once a fortnight, times to be arranged with parent.  Extra hours may be available during the school holidays.



Support Worker/Personal Care Assistant required for 14 year old boy who lives with his family in Burgess Hill. 

  • He has learning disabilities, ADHD and Autism and a language disorder.
  • He has no danger awareness so needs to be supervised and kept safe at all times.
  • He is a happy, outgoing boy and enjoys and prefers to be outdoors doing activities.
  • You will be required to pick him up for school and take him to activities e.g. horse riding.
  • He also needs support to make appropriate choices and develop his independence.
  • Experience of working with children with additional needs required.
  • You must be cheerful, very reliable, patient, flexible and have a calming influence.
  • A non-smoker, driving licence and own car essential.

Other Requirements

  • Must have a UK driving licence
  • Must have access to own vehicle
  • Other : non-smoker is essential

Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.

Personal Care

May need reminding to wash hands, keep clean.

May need reminding to drink regularly


Drive him in your car.

Pick him up from school and take him to activities e.g. horse riding.

To take him on trips out during summer holidays.

Promoting his independence, giving him choices and options.

Plan in advance what activities you will be doing.

Give him advance warning about what will happen next e.g. when it is time to end an activity or leave a venue.  

Supervise and keep him safe at all times.


Person specification

The successful applicant will be: 

Experienced in working with children with additional needs.

A non-smoker (essential)

Have a full driving licence and own car.

Ideally have first aid training or be willing to attend a course.

Respect employer’s privacy and confidentiality.

Honest and trustworthy.

Patient and have a calming influence. 

Able to calm and reassure the young person if he becomes anxious or agitated. 

Able to follow instructions and work on own initiative.

Fit and healthy enough to undertake the full range of tasks.

Legally permitted to work in the UK.

Be cheerful and positive. 

Very reliable with good timekeeping. 


Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
