Hours/shifts:  1 hour on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, approx. start 11.00am, extra hours may be available if required.  Flexibility needed. 

Summary

  • Upbeat, organized Personal Care Assistant required to help a pleasant 55 year old woman struggling to look after herself and manage her own home and pets.   
  • She has fibromyalgia which causes extreme fatigue , severe muscle and joint pain.
  • She is also prone to depression, forgetfulness/confusion, loss of balance, visual disturbances and colds.
  • Assistance is required with personal care, housework, meal preparation, shopping, dog walking and attending appointments.
  • Her needs fluctuate so you must be flexible and able to adapt to changing needs.
  • You must also be comfortable with animals as she has two Siberian huskies and a cat.
  • A non-smoker is essential.
  • You should be efficient, reliable, trustworthy and positive.
  • Willing to suggest activities and places for employer to go e.g. arts and crafts.

Description

Typical duties – please note not all these tasks would be required every day.  The tasks will vary and are not limited to the list below.  PAs may be asked to carry out other tasks from time to time. 

Domestic -       

Changing bed linen and doing laundry

Taking out rubbish

General housework, including cleaning, dusting and vacuuming, washing up. 

Preparing drinks, snacks and meals – assisting employer.

Shopping

Maintenance of garden – assist employer

Tidying

Organising the employer’s clothes/belongings

Assisting with household paperwork

 

Personal Care: 

  • Support to get in/out of bed
  • Washing and bathing, washing hair, towelling dry/ drying hair
  • Help getting into and out of bath/shower
  • Support with mobility around the home – uses a walker
  • Dressing and undressing/ helping with buttons and fastenings as sometimes has difficulty using fingers.
  • Reminding to take medication.
  • Assistance with medication i.e. helping to take tablets from foil/packets
  • Mealtimes e.g. cutting up food.

Social:   

  • Accompanying and assisting employer on shopping trips when required
  • Assisting with walking dogs
  • Support with getting to appointments e.g. dentist.
  • The above duties will involve driving the employer in your car or the employer’s car.
