Job Title: Support Worker/ Personal Care Assistant

3 night shifts and 3 day shifts jobshare between at least 2 PAs

Shift hours night 10.30pm to 7.30am (9 hours)

Day     9:30am to 11:30am (2 hours)

There can be some flexibility either side of the shifts offered.

• The client lives at home in Crawley but needs help to achieve a level of independent living. He has several health issues, but these can be managed with good, efficient and skilled carers.
• Staff will need a wide range of caring skills which will reflect the client’s lifestyle and choices. Whilst most of the care will be done at home, there will be times when he is hospitalized and carers will be expected to work their shifts alongside the medical staff ensuring his safety always.
• The client has a head injury, Sleep apnoea, is registered blind with Diabetes Type 2 and is a wheelchair user, so experience of any or all these conditions will be an advantage.
Other Requirements
• Driving licence preferable but not essential.
Desirable Criteria but not essential
• Non Smoker preferred. Smoking is not permitted in the house or car.
• Have good communication skills with blind and/or deaf awareness.
• Have experience of and qualifications of working in a care setting
All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check
Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.

Typical duties

  • Observe and assist as necessary whilst client is sleeping, night shift only.
    • Assisting with Personal Care, including skin care, bathing, shaving, oral care, toileting (including management of bladder & bowels), dressing, hair care.
    • Enabling mobility, including Moving & Handling transfers
    • Checking of specialist equipment e.g. Apap machine and wheelchairs.
    • Dietetics, including assistance with menu planning, preparing, serving and storing of foods.
    • Assist client to fulfil activities of daily living 
    • Prepare, check, administer and record medications as prescribed by medical team. Full training will be given.
    • Awareness and appropriate support of sensory loss.
    • Day to day household tasks e.g. changing beds, laundry, ironing, shopping, refuse disposal.
    • Negotiate breaks with client to ensure that these are consented and mutually suitable. 
    • Reporting & Recording as per company procedure.
    • Adhering to company policies and procedures at all times.
