There is an opportunity to extend the length of these shifts by supporting to access the community and social activities at various times over the weekend. Saturday & Sunday: 8:30am – 10:am Saturday & Sunday: 21:30pm – 22:30pm These hours alone will be paid at £21 per hour Summary • I require a Support Worker/Personal Care Assistant for my sixteen year old son with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. • Duties will include assisting him with personal care tasks including hoisting, toileting, washing and dressing. • Experience of working with disabled young people would be useful, but not essential as full training will be given. • You should be friendly, reliable, patient and flexible. • This is a great opportunity to enable my son to be independent and participate in fun, social activities • You will be employed by me (mum) Other Requirements • Must have a UK driving licence • Other : All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service checkSuccessful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts. DescriptionTypical duties Personal Care: • Getting out of bed using a hoist • Washing/showering• Toileting• Getting dressed/undressed • Mealtimes e.g. cutting up food, assistance to eat Social: • Driving his mobility car to assist him to get to college, social activities and appointments. • Keeping safe but also allowing him some freedom and independence when he is meeting with friends• Helping him to develop confidence and independence when out in the community. Person specificationThe successful applicant will be: • Have a full driving licence and willingness to drive a mobility car• Willing to assist with toileting and hoisting• Have a friendly, caring nature• An interest in my son’s social activities would be useful but not essential.• Have patience and good communication skills• Experience of working with disabled children would be useful but not essential.• Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality• Reliable with good time-keeping• Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative• Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties• Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard• Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom• Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
