We think working in care is one of the best jobs a person can have. We’ve already said why being a personal assistant is so rewarding, but maybe you’re thinking about a role in domiciliary care. Here are some of the positive things a career in home care has to offer:

The work is flexible:

Most care workers tend to work in a shift pattern, consisting of early, late and night shifts. Shift work gives you the opportunity to work during times that best suit you, giving you more time to yourself than a standard 9 to 5.

Learn on the job:

As well as developing your soft skills, a job in the care industry gives you the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications. In fact a number of our care staff have gone on to study NVQ’s and even degrees while working with us.

The people:

Care work relies on strong personal connections. And not just between customer and carer, but also between carers. In other jobs like retail, the connections you have with others might be brief. But a large part of being a carer is about building positive relationships to ensure the people you support are given the highest quality care.

Jobs in care are here to stay:

Times are tough right now and understandably people are looking for stability, something which working in care provides. Currently there are almost 11 million people in the UK aged over 65. By 2032 this will have increased to almost 13 million. A growing ageing population means an increase in care work and with an average of 105,000 care vacancies being advertised every day in 2020 – that trend looks set to continue.

You get to make a difference:

Lastly, a point that gets overlooked because every job has its upsides but working in care provides rewards that other jobs simply cannot. The appreciation you receive from customers and the feeling of satisfaction you feel after a day spent improving people’s lives is unmatched.
